Easter’s here already?
Does anyone else think this year has gone blindingly fast?
Whether you’re religious or not, Easter is a great time to meet up with your friends and family to bond over a few drinks too many and the chocolate to match, but did you know chocolate actually has a few health benefits?
• It’s high in fiber
• Packed with iron, magnesium, copper, zinc, selenium and manganese
• Contains healthy fats
• Good source of antioxidants
• Can help to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure
• Can raise HDL (good cholesterol) and stop LDL (bad cholesterol) from oxidizing
• And more!
Now, most of these apply to dark chocolate, but a few extend to milk. The issue with milk and white chocolate is that there’s often so much added sugar and other ingredients that it negates the positive effects of the cocoa. Therefore, if you already like dark chocolate or fancy giving it a go, then try and make the switch.
However, this goes to show that not everything is explicitly bad for you. Even something as tasty as chocolate has a wide range of healthy properties! It all comes down to how much of it you consume and the quality of the product you’re eating. If you’re wolfing down a family-sized bar of white chocolate every day, then that’s not going to do wonders for your health, but a few squares of dark chocolate may actually help you to become healthier.
