HOW TO ADD MORE ACTIVITY TO YOUR ROUTINE IN THE COOLER MONTHS

Did you know that doing regular exercise can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure, colon cancer, and diabetes? Strive to get at least 10,000 steps in per day. You can track this with a fitness tracker or a pedometer, and add some light resistance training in a few days a week if possible.

Staying active is essential to overall health, but it can be difficult during the colder months. This week, I am going to be sharing some tips on how to stay active during the winter.

Tip #1: Do a Home Workout Program

There are plenty online programs you can use to stay active. Try finding one you can enjoy and stick to such as yoga, light weight resistance training, or Pilates.

Tip #2: Join an Indoor Fitness Class

Being stuck indoors doesn’t necessarily help keep you motivated, but if you can get out of the house and join and fitness class it can help you stay active and get some social time as well!

Tip #3: Wear a Fitness Tracker

Fitness trackers are a great way to stay on top of your fitness goals. Wearing a tracker can help you calculate how many steps you are doing per day and motivate you to do more if you find you aren’t staying as active as you would like.

For this week’s challenge, I challenge you to try at least two of these tips for staying more active this winter:

  • Try a home workout program
  • Join a fitness class
  • Try using a fitness tracker
  • Do a yoga sequence at home
  • Take the stairs whenever you have the chance
  • Park farther away from the entrance when you do errands
