HOW TO COMBAT FATIGUE

Did you know that fatigue can impact more than just your energy levels? Being chronically fatigued can affect your quality of life as well. With fatigue comes lack of motivation, missed deadlines, a lack of concentration, and can even impact social life. If you feel like you’ve reached burnout, fatigue can also affect overall health as well.

If fatigue plays a large role in your life, getting to the root cause of the problem is essential to living a healthy life. Making an appointment with a naturopath can help with diagnostic testing such as vitamin and mineral deficiency testing, to get to that underlying cause, and help you get back on your feet.

Fatigue is something that all of us experience at some point or another. With a hectic lifestyle, it’s hard to avoid not feeling run down now and then. However, when fatigue is a consistent issue, it can really get in the way of life and drag you down.

If you suffer from fatigue more often than not, here are 3 tips to boost energy and combat fatigue:

Tip #1: Kick the Caffeine

I know this may sound counterintuitive, but grabbing that cup of coffee every time you feel fatigue set in may actually not be helping you after all. Caffeine can give you a false sense of energy, and mask the underlying issue. Caffeine in excess can also burn out your adrenals which is the very last thing you want to do.

Tip #2: Get Moving

Even if exercise is the last thing on your mind when all you want to do is take a nap, exercising may give you that little energy boost you need. Exercise has been linked to improving quality of life, and that includes giving you an overall energy boost. Get out and go for a walk next time you feel dragged down.

Tip #3: Get to Bed Early

Getting to bed early, and preferably before 10 pm can help prevent a cortisol spike keeping you up later in the evening. Turn off all electronics and hit the hay early to wake up feeling more refreshed and ready to tackle the day.

If you’re ready to beat fatigue, try this week’s challenge!

For this week’s challenge, I encourage you to incorporate at least one of these three tips to helping you combat fatigue.

#1: Eat a Super Powered Breakfast: Make breakfast a habit, skipping breakfast can have you feeling sluggish even before you start your day. Enjoy a morning smoothie with some plant-based protein, fruits, and a tablespoon of coconut oil for an energy packed meal.

#2: Wake Your Body Up: Try not to spring from your bed and immediately start your day, slowly wake your body up. Do a few gentle stretches or a quick yoga routine before you get going in the morning. You will thank yourself later!

#3: Calm Down Your Body Before Bed: It’s important to slow down your body before you go to bed, so you don’t go to bed stressed from the day, you won’t sleep well that way! Try some restorative yoga, or an evening meditation to beat fatigue, and get a better night sleep so you feel refreshed for the next day.
