KIDNEY STONES

KIDNEY STONES

Did you know that living an inactive lifestyle can be a risk factor for kidney stones? Some other things that could put you at risk include taking medications that are known to dehydrate you, eating a low nutrient diet, and middle aged men are more likely to get kidney stones.

Some of the common symptoms include:

  • Pain by the kidneys that can come and go
  • Fever
  • Lower back pain

Kidney stones can be incredibly painful, and they can keep coming back if you do not address the issue at its source. Here are some tips to help prevent kidney stones.

Tip #1: Try Hydrangea

This is used for urinary tract problems such as infections of the bladder, urethra, and prostate; enlarged prostate; and kidney stones.

Tip #2: Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol

A large part of preventing kidney stones is staying hydrated, and unfortunately, both caffeine and alcohol can be dehydrating, so it’s best to keep them out of the diet when trying to prevent kidney stones.

Tip #3: Watch Foods High in Oxalic Acid

Those who are prone to kidney stones need to be careful of the amount of fruits and vegetables they consume that are high in oxalic acid. These can cause a build up and make kidney stones worse. You will want to watch the amount of spinach, beets, eggplant, grapefruits, blueberries, and almonds you include in your diet if kidney stones are something you are very prone to.

For this week’s challenge, I challenge you to avoid certain foods that are known to make kidney stones worse. These include:

Avoid:

  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol
  • Processed foods
  • Deli meat
  • Sugar
  • Processed grains

Instead, enjoy a diet rich in whole foods and be sure to stay hydrated throughout the day.
