Yesterday was Random Act of Kindness Day in the UK! A day designed to make the world that little bit brighter by helping the lives of others and taking the focus away from ourselves.
It can be easy in the modern day to keep insulated inside your little bubble, and of course, it’s important to practice self-love and look after yourself. However, one of the best ways we can make ourselves happy is by helping the lives of others.
Altruism is when we decide to put the needs of others before ourselves. This can be anything from paying someone a compliment to volunteering at a charity. Studies have shown that acts of selflessness actually boost our mood and improve our mental health. Therefore, it’s important to look after those around you as much as you look after yourself. Do unto others what you would have them do unto you.
This doesn’t need to be restricted to a single day of the year, there’s always something you can be doing to improve the lives of others, so make sure to look out for opportunities to improve the world around you as you go about your day.
