With January right around the corner, now is a good time to start thinking about change. Well, in reality, you can make a change whenever you would like – there’s no need to wait for January resolutions to start switching yourself up for the better. Though, it is nice to make to change when other people are doing the same so that you have not only a sense of comradery, but competition. Nobody wants to be the first person to quit, and you can use this innate human quality to your advantage when it comes to your health!

The most common resolutions at the start of the year were:
1. Eat better
2. Exercise more
3. Spend less money
4. Self care/Get more sleep
5. Read more books
6. Learn a new skill
7. Get a new job
8. Make new friends
9. Get a new hobby
10. Focus more on appearance

Remember, change isn’t just for a few weeks or months, it should be for good. We’re looking for healthy, long-term, sustainable changes that affect your life for the better.

We don’t specifically need to be thinking about our health such as “to eat better” or “to focus on sleep more”, we can also be thinking about things that make us happy. Within that list are resolutions such as “read more books”, “learn a new skill”, “make new friends” and “get a new hobby”.

Whatever you do, it just needs to check two boxes:
1. Does it make you happier or healthier?
2. Can you keep it up in the long term and do you have the motivation to do so?

If it does both of these things, then it’s good to go. This year, really take some time to think about what you want to do. Don’t make it a last minute thing that you’re just going to throw away when it suits you. You can make a substantial change for the better this time, so seize that opportunity and plan ahead!
