Did you know that 1 in 7 couples in the UK will have difficulty conceiving? This can be due to a disruption in either the male or female reproductive system or a combination of both. A couple is also not considered to have fertility issues until they have been unable to conceive for over 1 year. While this can be frustrating for many couples, there are some things you can do to take control of your reproductive health which we will be talking about this week.

When talking about the reproductive system, the topic of infertility often comes up. Infertility can occur when there is a problem with either the male or female reproductive system. Here are some tips on combatting infertility in both men and women:

Tip #1: Try Stinging Nettle

This is one of the best fertility herb for men and also for women. In women, it tones and nourishes the uterus. The herb promotes strengthening of the kidneys and adrenal glands. This herb preparing a woman’s body for pregnancy and also help for sustaining the embryo once conception occurs. You can take the herb as tea One, two, or even more cups per day. The tea is extremely high in Vitamin K and found to increase breast milk supply in mothers.

Tip #2: Avoid Heavy Metals

Heavy metal exposure can have a negative effect on many different areas of your health, and your reproductive system is one of them. Heavy metals can affect the health of male sperm. You will want to avoid eating too much mercury-containing fish and avoid any cigarette smoke whenever possible as well as water from old pipes.

Tip #3: Watch Your Weight (Both Underweight & Overweight)

Being both underweight and overweight can cause issues with fertility and is one of the primary reasons for infertility in women. You will want to strive for a healthy balance by eating a well-balanced diet and exercising at least 4-5 times per week.

For this week’s challenge, I challenge you to take care of your reproductive system by following some of these tips:

  • Get your vitamin and mineral levels checked. A deficiency can be a reason for infertility
  • Avoid exposure to heavy metals and other toxicities
  • Reduce your free radical exposure by removing damaged fats from your diet (canola oil, safflower oil, trans-fats and hydrogenated fats) staying away from cigarette smoke
  • Practice daily stress reduction
