What are the benefits of Red Clover Tincture?

Historically, Red Clover (also known as trifolium pratense) was used to treat whooping cough, gout, asthma and cancer.

Today, Red Clover is used to support women as they transition into menopause, and sometimes by those with osteoarthritis. The Wellness Practitioner Red Clover Tincture can be taken daily for short periods of time.

What is Red Clover?

Red Clover is a herb that is part of the Fabaceae family and is native to Europe, Western Asia and north-West Africa. This herb has a distinct purple-red flower on a long thin green stem and gets its genus name Trifolium from the Latin “tres” meaning “three” and “folium” for “leaf”, and the type of species “pratense” meaning “of the meadows” which is where the red clover plant is commonly found.

Why does this Red Clover tincture contain alcohol?

Alcohol is used as it is an excellent solvent for extracting herbal medicines. The amount of alcohol used in this herbal tincture is small and therefore does not have any intoxicating effects.

All of The Wellness Practitioner range of herbal remedies and nutritional supplements have been tested for safety and quality independently.

Who could benefit from taking this Red Clover Tincture?

Red Clover is rich in isoflavones; a substance that can be changed into phytoestrogens by the body, which is similar to the hormone oestrogen. For this reason many women who are experiencing premenopausal symptoms take it, such as hot flashes, breast pain and tenderness. It is also taken to support those living with osteoarthritis.  This information on Red Clover is based on traditional use only.
